Description

Simplified process of virus replication.

Viruses hijack host cells to carry out replication and increase their numbers. The coronavirus (yellow) enters the alveolus, drifts through the surfactant, and binds to an alveolus type 2 (AV2) cell. After entering the cell, the virus replicates and is released, furthering the spread of the virus. The loss of AV2 cells decreases the amount of surfactant in the alveolus, as their main function is surfactant production. The viruses continue hijacking other cells and spreading. 

I created this animation to test out some new artistic techniques, and the content of this video hasn’t been checked by an expert. Refer to cdc.gov for the most up to date information on coronavirus and COVID-19.
