Description

Tingling, pain, numbness in the fourth and fifth fingers indicated ulnar nerve entrapment. A decompression was performed at the elbow to relieve the nerve.

I observed and sketched 2 ulnar nerve decompression surgeries. The major steps of the procedure were outlined and drawn. The surgeon and faculty of Art as Applied to Medicine checked the work for accuracy. Surgical textbooks and supplemental materials (ex. surgical notes from EPIC) were consulted throughout the process. Detailed line drawings were created by hand, then scanned into the computer. They were arranged into a textbook page layout in Adobe InDesign. The final rendering was completed with Procreate for the iPad Pro and then imported into Adobe InDesign for the final plate.
